The Problem
A batch chemical manufacturer in North West England required support to repair a Chemineer HT mechanical seal cartridge. The Chemineer vessel / agitator unit had not been used for some time and needed overhauling before it could be put back into service.
The Solution
The seal cartridge was removed from the agitator by the OEM and sent to NASH for strip down and evaluation.
The unit was in very poor condition. Both inboard and outboard faces were badly worn. The bearing was completely destroyed and several internal surfaces were badly corroded.
Evidence gathered from site suggested the seal originally failed outboard and pressurised sealant then washed away the bearing grease, ultimately causing catastrophic failure.
To save time, the end user was supplied with an ex stock service exchange unit. The original seal cartridge was then repaired with all new faces, elastomers, sleeve, bearing and bearing housing and returned to stock.
The end user was also advised to install pressure and level switches to prevent the seal being operated below minimum sealant level and pressure.
The Benefits
By providing a comprehensive mechanical seal repair service to the OEM for this type of seal, the end user was able to benefit from a fast, reliable service that ensured their Chemineer vessel was back in service within the required time frame.
