The Problem

A news ink manufacturer was experiencing unacceptable mechanical seal reliability on several of their Buhler Cobra Vertical Bead Mills and this was proving costly in terms of downtime and additional repairs.

The Solution

The company began sending complete seal and bearing head units to NASH for examination and repair.

After reviewing the condition of a number of seals and the associated service history, it became clear seals were failing through a combination of process upsets and lack of maintenance.

NASH advised the company to:

Increase the frequency of seal oil flush and filter changes
Replace head units before maximum recommended seal life was exceeded
Reduce process upsets through tighter production management

The Benefits

By working with NASH, the company was able to not only restore seal life but improve it beyond previously accepted levels.

This had the additional benefit of removing any need for a potentially costly upgrade to pressurised double seal units.
