The Problem

A global pharmaceuticals manufacturer required support to improve the design of several sizes of seal fitted to an older series of Pfaudler Balfour reactor vessel drives.

The original double seal arrangement was an outdated design, not ATEX compliant and required on site assembly from components during change outs that could adversely affect seal performance.

The Solution

Working within the existing vessel and drive design parameters, NASH designed and manufactured upgraded double mechanical seal cartridges incorporating:

  • Upgraded seal faces
  • All stainless steel metal parts
  • Liquid or gas lubricated configuration options
  • Ex II 1/2G type test and certification
  • Factory build & test

The Benefits

By using NASH to upgrade the seal arrangement to a modern, ATEX compliant cartridge design, the company was able to:

  • Improve safety
  • Improve seal life
  • Eliminate seal failures caused by on site fitting problems
  • Use the reactors for a greater range of processes
  • Bring its reactors and drives into ATEX compliance and so
  • Avoid replacing expensive glass lined reactors and drives
