The Problem
A batch chemical company based in the north of England required urgent support when a seal failed unexpectedly on an SSP lobe pump.
The pump was removed and sent to NASH for evaluation and repair.
The pump was stripped and inspected.
The drive shaft mechanical seal stationary seal ring had clearly blown back and not re-seated correctly, causing face misalignment and damage to the stationary O ring which quickly led to seal failure.
The problem was caused by excess pump pressure.
Otherwise, the pump was in good condition.
The Solution
The pump and mechanical seals were overhauled by NASH using new and refurbished parts as required. The pump underwent a successful hydraulic test and was returned to site within 48 hours.
NASH recommended that the end user identified and eliminated the possibility of excess pressure in the pump.
The Benefits
By providing specialist support, NASH was able to undertake a full pump overhaul that ensured the pump was repaired quickly and the causes of seal failure were identified and addressed before the unit was re-installed.
